Title: Do You Believe This?
Scripture: John 11:26

Jesus has just told Martha that her brother will rise again. Then he makes an even bigger claim: whoever believes in him, even though he dies, will live. Then Jesus looks Martha in the eye and asks, "Do you believe this?" The question cuts straight to the heart. He is not asking if she understands the theology of resurrection. He is asking if she trusts him personally. That is the same question he asks you today.

Martha had the right answer. She said, "Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God." Notice what she did not say. She did not claim to understand how resurrection works. She simply trusted the person who promised it. That is saving faith. It is not confidence in your own ability to figure everything out. It is confidence in Jesus, the one who raises the dead. If he says you will live, then you will live. His word is enough.

Many people in our church have sat by hospital beds. Some have watched loved ones take their last breath. Death feels final because we see the body stop breathing. But Jesus sees what we cannot see. He sees the soul departing to be with him. He sees the day when that soul will return to a renewed body. This is not wishful thinking. This is the promise of the one who conquered death by rising from the tomb. He proved he has the power to keep his word.

The world offers no real hope against death. Medicine can delay it, but it cannot defeat it. Philosophy can try to comfort you, but it cannot deliver you. Only Jesus speaks with authority over death. When he says you will live even though you die, he is telling you the truth. Your death is not the end of your story if you are united to him by faith. Your body will rest in the grave, but your soul will be alive with Christ. And on the last day, he will call your body forth, and you will rise never to die again.

This promise changes how we face today. You do not have to fear death because death has already been defeated. You can serve Christ boldly, knowing that nothing can separate you from his love. You can grieve with hope when Christian friends die, because you will see them again. You can live each day for eternal purposes, not just temporary ones. The resurrection is not just future comfort; it is present strength.

But Jesus still asks the question: "Do you believe this?" He is not asking if you believe in life after death in general. He is asking if you believe in him. Do you trust that his death and resurrection secured your eternal life? Do you bank everything on his promise? If your answer is yes, then death has lost its sting. If your answer is no, then hear his voice today and believe. Turn from trusting in yourself and trust in the one who alone gives eternal life.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we confess that we often live as if death were still our master. Forgive us for our unbelief. Help us to trust your promise that everyone who believes in you will live, even though they die. Give us courage to live today in light of eternity. Amen.
