Title: God's Fellow Workers
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 3:9

Paul tells the Corinthians they are God's field, God's building. He's correcting their division over which preacher they prefer. Some follow Paul, others Apollos, as if these men were rival contractors. But Paul says they're not competitors. They're coworkers serving the same Master.

The apostle uses two images here. First, we're God's field. The church isn't our property to manage as we see fit. God owns the land. He decides what gets planted, where it grows, and when the harvest comes. Paul and Apollos are just farmhands doing what the Owner commands. One plants, another waters, but God gives the increase. The same applies to elders, deacons, Sunday school teachers, and every member. We're all laborers on property that isn't ours.

Second, we're God's building. Again, the emphasis falls on ownership. The church isn't a civic organization we formed to meet our needs. It's God's house. He drew the blueprints before the foundation was laid. Christ is the cornerstone. The apostles and prophets laid the foundation. We're being built together into a dwelling place for the Spirit. Every believer is a living stone fitted into place by the Master Builder.

This kills both pride and despair. Pride because we didn't design this building and we don't own this field. We can't take credit for what God has accomplished through us. Despair because our failures don't doom the project. The church will stand firm not because of our competence, but because God is the Builder. Even when we make mistakes, He works around our blunders to advance His purposes.

What does this mean for Monday morning? Stop treating the church like it's yours to fix or control. You have a job to do, assigned by the Owner. Maybe you're called to plant seeds through evangelism. Maybe you're called to water through discipleship and encouragement. Maybe you're called to support the work through giving and prayer. Whatever your role, do it faithfully, then leave the results to God. The harvest doesn't depend on your skill. The building doesn't depend on your strength. Both depend on the One who owns them.

Prayer: Lord, forgive us for acting as if the church belongs to us. Teach us to serve faithfully where You've placed us, trusting You to give the increase. Help us work alongside our brothers and sisters without rivalry or comparison. Build Your church as You see fit, for Your glory alone. Amen.
