“Not that I have already obtained, or am already made perfect; but I press on, that I may take hold of that for which also I was taken hold of by Christ Jesus.”

Title: Not That I Have Already Attained
Scripture: Philippians 3:12

Paul writes this from prison, yet he's talking about progress. Not perfection, but progress. That's important because many Christians get stuck thinking they need to be perfect right now. They read the Bible, see the standard, and get discouraged. But Paul, the great apostle himself, says he hasn't arrived. If Paul hasn't arrived, neither have you.

The Christian life is not a destination you reach in this lifetime. It's a journey of becoming more like Christ, day by day. Paul had seen Christ on the road to Damascus. He'd planted churches across the Roman Empire. He'd written half the New Testament. Yet here he is, admitting he's still learning, still growing, still pressing on. This isn't false humility. This is reality.

What does pressing on look like? It means getting up when you fall. It means repenting when you sin, again. It means opening your Bible even when yesterday's reading didn't make much sense. It means praying even when words feel dry. Pressing on is ordinary faithfulness, not spectacular experiences. It's the plodding path of obedience, not emotional highs.

You need to kill two lies today. First, the lie that you need to be perfect to please God. Christ's perfect record is yours by faith. Second, the lie that you can stay where you are. You can't. Growth is not optional for Christians. You're either moving toward Christ or away from Him. There's no standing still in the Christian life.

This verse should comfort you and challenge you. Comfort, because even Paul struggled. Your failures don't disqualify you. Challenge, because Paul kept moving forward. He didn't use his past failures as an excuse to quit. Neither should you. Today, press on. Not to earn God's love, but because you already have it in Christ.

Prayer: Lord, thank You that we don't need to be perfect, only faithful. Help us press on today, not to earn Your love but because we already have it. Forgive our laziness and our pride. Keep us moving toward Christ. Amen.
