Title: Let Justice Roll Down
Scripture: Amos 5:24

God is not impressed with our worship when we ignore justice. The Israelites in Amos' day thought they were doing fine. They brought their sacrifices, held their festivals, and sang their hymns. But God looked at how they treated the poor and called it all worthless noise. He told them exactly what He wanted instead: "Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream."

This verse should stop us cold. We can attend every service, give our money, and know all the right answers. But if we cheat our employees, ignore the needy, or stay silent when the powerful abuse the weak, our religion is empty. God cares deeply about how we treat people, especially those who cannot help themselves. He is not asking for occasional acts of kindness. He wants justice to flow constantly, like a river that never stops.

Justice means giving people what they are owed as beings made in God's image. It means fair wages, honest business deals, protecting the vulnerable, and speaking up against wrong. Righteousness is living in alignment with God's standards, not just avoiding sin but actively doing good. These cannot be separated from true worship. They are the proof that our worship is real.

Look at your daily life. Do you pay workers fairly, even when you could get away with less? Do you notice when coworkers are being mistreated, or do you look away to keep your comfort? When you make decisions at church or work, do you consider how they affect those with less power? These questions make us uncomfortable because they expose how often we settle for cheap grace that costs us nothing.

The image of flowing water tells us this is not about occasional good deeds. A river keeps moving, shaping everything in its path. God's justice should be that constant force in our lives, changing how we do business, how we spend money, how we vote, how we parent. When Christians live this way, the world sees that our God is different from the gods of convenience and self-interest.

Prayer: Lord, we have too often settled for worship that costs us nothing while ignoring the injustice around us. Make us people who do justice and love righteousness every day. Let our lives display Your character to a watching world. Amen.
