Scripture: Psalm 136:1-3, "Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods, for his steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his steadfast love endures forever."
Beloved in Christ,
As we gather today on this 12th day of August in the year of our Lord 2025, let us reflect on the unfailing love of God. The Psalmist reminds us in Psalm 136 that God's steadfast love endures forever. This is a truth that has been echoed throughout the ages by great theologians and believers alike.
John Calvin, in his commentary on Psalm 136, wrote, "The Psalmist here invites us to celebrate the mercies of God, which are worthy of everlasting remembrance." Indeed, our God is a God of love, mercy, and grace. His love is not fleeting or conditional, but steadfast and enduring. It is a love that has been demonstrated to us in the person of Jesus Christ, who, though we were yet sinners, died for us (Romans 5:8).
Charles Spurgeon, in his sermon on God's love, said, "The love of God is an infinite sphere, which cannot be measured, and knows no bounds." This love is not just for a select few, but for all. As John 3:16 reminds us, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."
As we go about our day, let us remember the unfailing love of God. Let it be a source of comfort in times of trouble, a source of joy in times of celebration, and a source of strength in times of weakness. Let us also extend this love to others, as we are commanded in 1 John 4:11, "Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another."
Let us pray:
Almighty God, we thank You for Your steadfast love that endures forever. We are in awe of Your mercy and grace, demonstrated to us in the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to remember Your love in all circumstances, and to extend this love to others. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
