Title: Ask for Workers
Scripture: Matthew 9:38

Jesus has been walking through towns and villages. He sees crowds who look like sheep without a shepherd. They are harassed, helpless, and ready to die. His heart breaks for them, and He tells His disciples to pray for more workers. That is our job description today.

The harvest is still huge. Your neighbors, coworkers, and family members are still lost. They may look successful on the outside, but inside they are empty and scared. Jesus looks at them with the same compassion He had two thousand years ago. The need has not shrunk; if anything, it has grown.

Notice what Jesus does not tell the disciples to do. He does not say, "Build bigger programs." He does not say, "Raise more money." He says, "Pray." Prayer is the first tool God has given us for kingdom growth. If we skip prayer, every other method will fail or puff us up. Prayer keeps us depending on the Lord of the harvest, not on our own bright ideas.

When we pray this prayer, we are asking God to raise up pastors, missionaries, small-group leaders, and faithful parents who will speak the gospel. Sometimes the answer comes by stirring someone else in our church to step up. Sometimes the answer is that God stirs us. Either way, the request puts us on the hook. We cannot pray for workers and then refuse when God taps our shoulder.

Make the prayer specific. Ask God to send a Bible teacher to that hard soil overseas. Ask Him to send a youth volunteer to the lonely kid next door. Ask Him to send you across the hall to speak hope to a weary coworker. Keep asking until the Lord of the harvest sends the people He has chosen. The harvest is His, the workers are His, and the results are His. Our part is to keep praying and to stay available when He calls.

Prayer: Lord of the harvest, we see the need and we feel small. Send workers into Your field, and if one of them is us, make us willing. Keep our hearts tender and our mouths ready to speak Your good news. Amen.
