This matters because Jesus has just told us to ask, seek, and knock. Prayer feels risky when you are desperate. You wonder if God will mock your need or hand you something that makes it worse. Jesus removes that fear by pointing to the character of God. If earthly fathers, who still carry sin in their hearts, manage to feed their kids, then the holy Father in heaven will certainly do better.
Notice Jesus does not say every request will be granted in the way we picture. He says the Father will give “good things.” Sometimes the good thing is the bread of a changed heart, not the stone of an easy escape. Sometimes the good thing is a slower answer that trains us to trust, not a quick fix that ruins us. The promise is not that we will always get what we want, but that we will always get what the wise Father knows we need.
So bring the real request. If you need work, say so. If the marriage feels dead, say so. If the doctor’s report frightens you, say so. Then rest. The One who hears you is not playing games. He will not hand you a stone and laugh while you break your teeth. He will give what love itself would give, and His love never fails.
Let this shape how you pray today. Stop bargaining as if you have to talk God into kindness. Ask plainly, trust deeply, and leave the package in His hands. You are not begging a stranger; you are coming to your Father.
Prayer: Father, forgive us for doubting Your heart. Teach us to ask with confidence and to wait without fear. Give us the good we need, not the harm we sometimes think we want. Amen.
