Today, as we gather in the afterglow of Christmas, let us reflect on the significance of the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The apostle John tells us in his gospel, "In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." (John 1:4-5, NIV)
In the midst of the darkest days of winter, we celebrate the arrival of the true Light, who came to dispel the darkness of sin and death. As we look around us, we see a world that is still shrouded in darkness, a world that is in desperate need of the light of Christ.
As we go forth into the world, let us be like the wise men, who followed the star to find the Christ child, and let us bring the light of Christ to those who are still in darkness. Let us share the good news of salvation with those who are lost, and let us be a beacon of hope to those who are struggling.
In the words of Charles Spurgeon, "The world is a wilderness, but the believer has found streams of living water in this desert land. The world is a barren field, but the believer finds it a garden of delight. The world is a dreary prison, but the believer has found it to be a palace, for the King's own Son has made it His abode."
May we be filled with the light of Christ, and may we share that light with others, that they too may know the joy and peace that comes from knowing Him.
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, as we reflect on the birth of your Son, Jesus Christ, we thank you for the light that he brings into our lives. May we be filled with the light of Christ, and may we share that light with others. Help us to be a beacon of hope to those who are struggling, and may we bring the good news of salvation to those who are lost. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
