Title: You Call Me Teacher and Lord
Scripture: John 13:13

Jesus said this to the disciples right after He washed their feet. They were arguing about who was greatest, and He took the towel and basin. Now He asks them a simple question: "You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am." He's not looking for compliments. He's making them face what their words mean.

When we say "Teacher," we're saying we need instruction we don't have. When we say "Lord," we're saying we have a Master who gives commands we must obey. These aren't church words we throw around. They're job descriptions. Jesus holds both positions, and He holds them over us.

The disciples had been using these titles for three years, but they hadn't let the titles change how they lived. They still pushed for position. They still ignored His teaching when it didn't fit their plans. Sound familiar? We sing "Crown Him with Many Crowns" on Sunday and live like we're kings of our own lives by Tuesday.

Here's the test: When Jesus teaches something in Scripture that contradicts your opinion, what wins? When His Lordship requires you to forgive someone who hurt you, do you obey? The titles only matter if we mean them. Otherwise, we're just using religious language to make ourselves feel better.

Jesus isn't asking for your praise. He's asking for your submission. Teacher means you sit down, open your Bible, and learn. Lord means you get up and do what He says. The disciples called Him both. The question is: do we live like we mean it?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, forgive us for calling You Teacher while ignoring Your teaching, and for calling You Lord while refusing Your commands. Make our words true today. Amen.
