Title: Jesus Takes Three Men Up the Mountain
Scripture: Mark 9:2

Six days after Peter confessed Jesus as the Christ, Jesus grabs Peter, James, and John and hikes up a high mountain. That detail matters. Jesus doesn't bring the whole crowd. He chooses three ordinary men who have jobs and families and short tempers. These are the same men who will abandon Him at the cross. Yet here He brings them into His glory before they fail Him. That's grace.

On the mountain, Jesus is transfigured. His clothes become dazzling white. Moses and Elijah appear and talk with Him. Peter, the spokesman, panics and offers to build tents. He's trying to manage the situation because holiness terrifies him. The Father speaks from heaven: "This is my beloved Son. Listen to Him." The Father is not interested in Peter's building plans. He wants Peter to shut up and pay attention.

The transfiguration is a preview. Jesus shows these weak men what He truly is: God in the flesh, worthy of worship. They need to see this because in a few months they will watch Him bleed and die. The vision will sustain them when everything looks lost. What they see on the mountain must carry them through the valley of the cross.

This passage confronts our casual Christianity. We treat Jesus like a helpful life coach. We pray when we need something. But the transfigured Christ demands awe. He is not safe. He is not domesticated. He is the eternal Son who spoke galaxies into being. The proper response is Peter's: face down, terrified, speechless. Only then can we hear the Father's word: "Listen to Him."

The Christian life is not mainly about trying harder. It is about seeing Christ rightly. When you see His glory, obedience follows. When you grasp who He is, your plans shrink. You stop arguing with Scripture. You stop negotiating with sin. You listen. The transfiguration teaches us to seek the real Jesus, not the Jesus we invent to make us comfortable.

Prayer: Father, we have seen Your Son in Your Word. Forgive us for treating Him lightly. Give us eyes to see His glory and ears to hear His voice. Make us people who listen and obey. Amen.
