John 1:38-39
“Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them, “What are you looking for?” They said to him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, being interpreted, Teacher), “where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come, and see.” They came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about the tenth hour.”

Title: Where Are You Staying?
Scripture: John 1:38-39

John tells us that when Jesus turned and saw two men following Him, He asked a simple question: “What are you seeking?” They answered with another question: “Rabbi, where are you staying?” These men were not looking for a quick sermon or a miracle. They wanted to know where Jesus lived, because they wanted to spend time with Him. That tells us something about real discipleship. It starts with curiosity, but it grows into commitment.

Notice what Jesus does next. He does not give them a map or a street address. He says, “Come and you will see.” That invitation is still the heart of the Christian life. Jesus does not hand out information from a distance. He invites us to walk with Him, to sit in His presence, to watch how He lives. The disciples went, they saw, and they stayed the whole day with Him. Time with Jesus is never wasted.

This passage shows us that following Jesus is personal before it is practical. These men did not yet know all the doctrines. They had not seen the cross or the empty tomb. They just knew Jesus was worth knowing, so they followed. Too often we try to reverse the order. We want to figure everything out first, then decide if we will follow. Jesus says, “Come and see.” Trust comes before understanding. Obedience comes before explanation.

The question “Where are you staying?” is still the right one to ask. Not where is Jesus staying in first-century Palestine, but where is He staying in your life right now? Where is He inviting you to walk with Him today? Maybe it is in a hard conversation you keep avoiding. Maybe it is in a Scripture you keep skipping. Maybe it is in a neighbor you keep overlooking. Jesus is not hard to find. He is simply waiting for you to follow.

If you want to grow in faith, do what these first disciples did. Admit you are seeking something. Ask Jesus where He is working. Then accept His invitation to come and see. You do not need perfect theology or heroic strength. You just need to show up and stay awhile. The Christian life is not a sprint of excitement; it is a long walk with a person. The more time you spend with Him, the more you will recognize His voice in every part of your day.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we want to know where You are staying today. Show us the places You are already at work. Give us the courage to follow and the patience to stay. Keep us from rushing ahead or lagging behind. Walk with us, and let us walk with You. Amen.
