You want to please Him, not because you might get punished, but because you love Him. That's the difference between slavish religion and true Christianity.
This means you can pray differently. You don't have to grovel like a slave, wondering if God will listen. You come as Christ's friend, speaking to your Father through His blood. You can ask bold questions, because Jesus has already shown you the Father's character. You can trust that whatever comes, it flows from the same heart that called you friend.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, we marvel that You call us friends. Forgive us when we live like distant servants, afraid to draw near. Teach us to obey from love, not fear. Make us glad to be known by You, and help us gladly make You known to others. Amen.
