A disciple is someone who follows Jesus, learns from Jesus, and obeys Jesus. Making disciples takes time. It takes teaching. It takes relationships.
The scope is massive. "All nations" means every ethnic group. This wasn't a small task for eleven Jewish men. The Roman Empire stretched from Britain to North Africa to Persia. There were thousands of people groups. Languages they didn't know. Cultures they didn't understand. But Jesus says to go to all of them.
This command isn't just for the eleven. It's for the church. When you became a Christian, you weren't just saved from something. You were saved for something. You were brought into this mission. Making disciples isn't the job of pastors only. It's the calling of every believer. You have a role to play.
Start where you are. Teach someone what Jesus taught you. Show someone how to read the Bible. Show someone how to pray. Bring someone to church. Have them over for dinner and talk about what following Christ looks like in daily life. This is how disciples have always been made. One person helping another person follow Jesus.
Prayer: Lord, we often think disciple-making is someone else's job. Forgive us. Show us who we can help follow You today. Give us courage to speak and wisdom to teach. Use us to advance Your kingdom. Amen.
