Biblical Perspective on Profanity and Swearing in Speech

This truth addresses the heart of a believer, as it pertains to the use of language that may be considered profane or coarse. Paul writes in Ephesians 4:29 that we should let no corrupting talk come out of our mouths, but instead speak in a way that is helpful for building others up. The use of such language can be seen as a form of corrupting talk, as it can be hurtful or offensive to others, and may not edify or glorify God.

The Reformed perspective emphasizes the importance of living a life that is pleasing to God, and this includes our speech. As believers, we are called to be salt and light in the world, and our language should reflect this. In this sense, saying "fuck", "ass", or "shit" can indeed be considered sinful, as it goes against the biblical standard for speech.
