Call to Worship Based on 'All Sufficient Merit'

As we gather to worship, let us fix our eyes on the One who is our all-sufficient Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. The song "All Sufficient Merit" reminds us that our salvation is not based on our own merits or works, but solely on the finished work of Christ. As the apostle Paul writes, "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9). Our righteousness is not our own, but the righteousness of Christ imputed to us, as we read in 2 Corinthians 5:21, "For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."

As we come before the throne of God, let us remember that our access to the Father is not based on our own worthiness, but on the worthiness of Christ. Hebrews 10:19-22 reminds us that we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, and that we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God. Our worship is not about what we can bring to God, but about what God has brought to us in Christ. As the psalmist writes, "Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!" (Psalm 115:1).

So let us come to worship with humble hearts, acknowledging our own insufficiency and the all-sufficient merit of Christ. May our songs, prayers, and praises be filled with the truth of the gospel, and may we be reminded that our salvation is a gift of God's grace, not a result of our own efforts. As we worship, may we be transformed by the renewing of our minds, and may we be conformed to the image of Christ, who is our all-sufficient Savior and Lord.
