Conditions for Being Spirit-Filled in the Bible
Scripture presents the Spirit-filled life not as a static achievement but as a dynamic relationship marked by specific postures and practices. The New Testament describes believers as temples of the Holy Spirit [6], yet also commands them to "be filled" with the Spirit [6], suggesting an ongoing receptivity rather than a one-time event.
Biblical Prerequisites
Repentance and faith form the foundational conditions. Peter's Pentecost sermon links the gift of the Spirit directly to repentance and baptism in Jesus' name [4]. The Spirit is given "to those who obey God" [4], establishing obedience as both condition and consequence of the Spirit's indwelling. Faith itself serves as the means by which believers receive the Spirit's work [7], and without faith "it is impossible to please him" [10]—a principle extending to all spiritual receptivity.
The posture of spiritual thirst appears repeatedly.
