The promises of God, which are contained in the Scriptures and made in Christ, are foundational to this hope [9]. God is faithful to these promises, and he remembers them [9]. Waiting upon God is linked to hoping in him for various provisions, including mercy, pardon, salvation, guidance, protection, and the fulfillment of his word and promises [7].
Uncertainty often brings about fear and inquietude, which are seen as stemming from a lack of faith in God's providence and goodness [14]. To counter this, individuals are encouraged to ask in faith, "nothing wavering" [11]. This means having settled convictions about what is being asked for, God's power to act, and his will in matters he has declared [11]. Perseverance is also crucial, manifested in seeking God, waiting upon him, prayer, and continuing in faith [8]. This perseverance is maintained through God's power, Christ's power, Christ's intercession, and the fear of God [8].
The concept of assurance extends beyond general faith to specific aspects of one's relationship with God. It includes assurance of election, redemption, adoption, salvation, eternal life, God's unalienable love, and union with God and Christ [4]. This assurance is an effect of righteousness and is abundant in the understanding of the gospel [4]. God's willingness to show the "heirs of promise" the immutability of his counsel, often through an oath, reinforces the steadfastness of his decree concerning salvation [13]. This steadfastness provides a basis for holding fast to the profession of faith without wavering, knowing that God, who promised, is faithful [12].
