Disobedience in Worship and the Fall of Humanity
The fall of humanity, as recorded in Genesis 2 and 3, describes the revolt of the first parents from God, leading to sin and misery for them and their descendants [1]. This event is characterized by disobedience, which is presented as the root cause of humanity's fallen state [2].
Disobedience to God carries severe consequences. It provokes God's anger, forfeits His favor and promised blessings, and brings a curse [4]. The severity of will-worship—worship devised by human will rather than God's—is underscored by instances like Nadab and Abihu being struck dead for offering unauthorized incense [13].
The fall, initiated by Adam's disobedience through the devil's temptation, resulted in humanity being born in sin, described as children of wrath with evil, blinded, corrupt, and depraved hearts and minds [2]. This state contrasts with the new nature believers receive through God's Spirit, which involves a transformation and a renewed mind [8, 10]. True worship, in contrast to disobedience and idolatry, occurs when God's Spirit reveals God's truth to the worshiper [9]. It involves a heart that is right with God and others [7].
