Ephesians 2:10 - God's Prepared Works for Believers
As believers, they are created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God has prepared beforehand, that they should walk in them, as Paul writes in Ephesians 2:10. This doctrine emphasizes that good works are not a means to earn salvation, but rather a result of being saved. The good works prepared by God include serving others, sharing the gospel, and living a life of obedience to God's commands.
Paul's writings in Ephesians highlight the importance of living out one's faith in practical ways, such as maintaining unity in the church, honoring one's spouse and parents, and working diligently in one's occupation. These good works are a demonstration of a believer's gratitude for the salvation they have received and are a means of bringing glory to God.
In this sense, good works are not limited to grand or extraordinary acts, but can include everyday actions that reflect a heart of love and obedience to God. For example, visiting the sick, giving to those in need, and speaking words of encouragement to others are all examples of good works that God has prepared for believers to walk in, as they seek to live out their faith in a way that honors Him, and as Paul writes in Romans 8:28, God works all things together for the good of those who love Him.
