Examples of God's Wisdom in the Bible and Their Application
God's wisdom is presented in the Bible as one of His essential attributes, characterized as perfect, mighty, universal, infinite, unsearchable, and wonderful [2]. This divine wisdom is beyond human comprehension and is the ultimate source from which all human wisdom is derived [2].
One significant example of God's wisdom is seen in the plan of redemption. The apostle Paul highlights that God made His grace "abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence" [14]. This refers to God's wisdom in devising the plan for humanity's redemption and His prudence in executing it through various means and providential arrangements [14]. The Gospel itself is said to contain treasures of God's wisdom, even though it may be considered "foolishness" by the world [2, 14].
The Bible also provides numerous examples of wisdom in human figures, often derived from God. Solomon, for instance, is celebrated for his wisdom, which is explored in the apocryphal book The Wisdom of Solomon. This text praises wisdom as a guide for practical and intellectual life, a stay for leaders, and an interpreter of the universe [3]. In the Old Testament, wisdom is intimately connected with prudence, enabling individuals to understand God's ways, foresee and avoid evil, and deal with knowledge effectively [1]. Those who possess prudence are celebrated for it and are preserved by it [1].
Christ Himself serves as the ultimate example of wisdom and its application. His prudence was evident in His responses to challenges, such as questions about paying taxes to Caesar or His authority [1]. Christ also exemplified resignation to God's will, as seen in Gethsemane, and meekness, which He taught and demonstrated throughout His ministry [5, 6]. These qualities are presented as examples for believers to follow [4, 6].
The fear of the Lord is consistently presented as a foundational aspect of wisdom [10]. This "healthy fear" counteracts inner turmoil and brings peace [9]. It involves honoring God's holy name and regarding Him as the sole hope for safety, rather than fearing people [7, 8, 11]. The wisdom of the world, in contrast, is considered foolishness with God, as human wisdom cannot fully grasp divine mysteries [12, 15]. God's glory is revealed not only in creation but even more profoundly through divine revelation in His Word, which serves to recover humanity from its fallen state [13].
