Jesus' Presence in Heaven According to Scripture

As we ponder the question of Jesus' presence in heaven, we are reminded of the profound truth that He is the very embodiment of heaven's glory. In John 1:18, we read that "no one has ever seen God" but that Jesus, the only-begotten Son, has made Him known to us. This same Jesus, who dwelt among us, now sits at the right hand of the Father, interceding for us (Romans 8:34). The book of Hebrews tells us that He has passed through the heavens, and that He is our Forerunner, who has entered heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf (Hebrews 6:20, 9:24).

In Acts 1:9-11, we witness Jesus' ascension into heaven, where He was received by the clouds, and the angels declare that He will return in the same manner. This glorious event is a testament to Jesus' triumph over sin and death, and it underscores His exalted position as the Lord of heaven and earth. As the Apostle Paul writes in Ephesians 1:20-22, Jesus has been seated at the right hand of the Father, far above all rule and authority, with all things under His feet. This is the Jesus who is in heaven, reigning and ruling over all creation, and yet, He is also the One who is with us, in us, and for us, as He has promised in Matthew 28:20.

In heaven, Jesus is preparing a place for us, that where He is, we may be also (John 14:3). This is the blessed hope of the believer, that we will one day be with Jesus, face to face, in the glory of heaven. And so, we look forward to that day, when we will see Jesus in all His glory, and we will worship Him, with all the saints, in the heavenly realms. Until then, we take comfort in the fact that Jesus is in heaven, advocating for us, and that He will return to take us to Himself, that we may be with Him forevermore.
