Character and Spiritual Qualities
The qualifications for church leadership emphasize character over credentials. Leaders are called to exhibit meekness in their conduct, to instruct opponents gently, and to restore the erring with care [4]. Diligence is equally essential—leaders must be diligent in seeking God, obeying him, and following every good work [6]. Paul's instruction that "if it is leading, let him lead with diligence" [2] underscores that leadership is not passive oversight but active, earnest service.
The Body and Its Gifts
The church functions as a unified body with diverse members, each assigned a particular role by God [7, 8]. Paul's body metaphor clarifies that "there are many members in the body of Christ, the church; some are teachers, others are hearers; some give, and others receive; but all make up but one church, of which Christ is the head" [9].
