Responding to God's Wisdom in Creation in Worship and Service
God's wisdom is profoundly demonstrated in the act of creation, and humanity's response to this wisdom involves both worship and service. The Bible consistently presents God as the sole Creator, bringing all things into being from nothing through His will and power [10, 12]. This act of creation is attributed to the entire Godhead: the Father, the Son (John 1:3; Col. 1:16-17), and the Holy Spirit (Gen. 1:2) [10]. The created order itself testifies to God's greatness and wisdom [16].
The book of Genesis highlights that God declared His creation "good" seven times, culminating in the declaration that it was "very good" after the creation of human beings [13]. Humanity was made in God's image to exercise dominion over the earth and to participate in God's Sabbath rest [11, 14]. This foundational understanding of creation informs how believers are to respond to God's wisdom.
Worship is a primary response to God's creative wisdom. It is the homage rendered to God, which is sinful to offer to any created being [5]. Angels, for instance, worship God and Christ [6]. Prayer, a key component of worship, is commanded and is to be offered to God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit through Christ [8]. The wisdom and knowledge of God, particularly as seen in His designs and the means He employs, are a proper subject for praise and reflection [15].
Service is another essential response. Paul describes his ministry as a "wise masterbuilder" laying a foundation according to the grace of God given to him [1, 2]. This suggests that service, particularly in building up the church, should be undertaken with wisdom and care. Believers are called to present their bodies as "a sacrifice—living, sanctified, acceptable to God—your intelligent service" [3]. This "intelligent service" implies a thoughtful and wise engagement with God's purposes. The grace received from God enables believers to serve Him in a way that is pleasing, with reverence and fear [4]. Prudence, intimately connected with wisdom, is exhibited in the manifestation of God's grace and helps individuals understand God's ways and their own [7]. Simplicity, opposed to fleshly wisdom, is also necessary in service, particularly in preaching the gospel and acts of benevolence [9].
