The Gospel Gift of Intentional Community with Others

Intentional community with others is indeed a gospel gift, as it reflects the very nature of God's triune relationship and His desire for humanity to live in harmony with one another. Paul writes in Romans 8:28 that "all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose," and this includes the gift of community. This truth matters because it highlights the importance of believers living in fellowship with one another, supporting and encouraging each other in their walk with Christ.

In Reformed theology, the concept of community is deeply rooted in the doctrine of the church, where believers are called to gather together for worship, edification, and service. A common misconception is that community is merely a social construct, but Scripture reveals that it is a vital aspect of the Christian life, where believers can experience the love and support of their brothers and sisters in Christ.

The gospel connection is clear: just as Christ has reconciled us to God, so too are we reconciled to one another through Him. As a pastor, it is a joy to see believers embracing this gift of community, using their unique gifts and talents to build one another up in love, and thereby reflecting the beauty of Christ's reconciling work to a world in need of redemption.
