Motivation of Love in the Gospel of Jesus Christ

The motivation of love in the Gospel of Jesus Christ stems from God's initiative, as expressed in 1 John 4:10: "In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins" ^{[1, 5]}.
